Spring has Sprung!

Spring Mash Up

We’re sharing more of our Spring samples with you today! So much gorgeous inspiration! Our team has definitely done it again!

Our in-house team isn’t too shabby either! We are so lucky to have the super-talented Tammie Wilson working in our Sales Department. She’s an amazing Decorative Painter and she has created some beautiful projects for us. Some of them use our wonderful Spring products.

Take a look at her gorgeous Dutch Tulips box. It features our 8″ X 8″ Decor Cling Script stamp in the background. These great backgrounds are so wonderful for the painting crowd, they’re just loving them! It’s so easy to apply ink or acrylic paint to the stamp.

Isn’t it beautiful??!! Tammie was even kind enough to write out the directions for us so that we can add it as a project to our website. This was all done with acrylic paints, and her easy instructions make it so much more doable than you would guess. What a lovely gift to make for someone special!

Our team is sharing some wonderful projects this week as well. We know you’ll stop by their blogs and give them some love. And the fabulous Sue Drees from the House-Mouse and Friends Design Team has joined us as well with a wonderful project featuring these Dutch Tulips.

Stampendous and DecoArt Blog Hop Day 2

Welcome back, everyone! We have a special post today for our hop coming from DecoArt design team member Kitty Miller. She has an incredible Shakespeare-themed project to share with us for her guest post! Welcome, Kitty!

I was so excited when I received my Stampendous Stamps by Andy Skinner. I immediately thought of Shakespeare and the set props and costumes and decided to make a set of themed blocks to showcase some of my favorite quotes and to celebrate literature.

Shakespeare Block 1
First I painted all of the blocks with a thin coat of DecoArt Matte Medium and let that dry. While that was drying, I ripped up a bunch of papers that I liked from books, song hymnals, scrapbook paper and letters. I rip the pieces towards me so that I do not get that white edge on any of the papers that I am collaging down as that will draw paint into it and attract the eye.
Once I get all of the blocks covered in torn papers, I collage down the images I am using and then coat the blocks with two coats of matte medium letting them dry in between coats. After the blocks are all covered with the matte medium and dry, I like to paint the backgrounds with a thin watered down coat of the DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics in a variety of colors, drying between colors, so the colors don’t mix and make mud. I also like to take some Paynes Grey and shade around the collaged items with a flat brush and the watered down paint.
Next, I stamped a bunch of the images onto the blocks that coordinated with the images and the quotes that I was using.
Once all of the images are collaged down the stamps need to be painted. I use small detail brushes and the DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics to paint over all of the images, to bring them to life and make them my own. Paint all eyes, hair, feathers, etc.
I wanted some texture and interest on the top of the blocks too. So for this one I spread DecoArt Modeling Paste and spread a thin layer on top of the block with a palette knife, once the modeling paste was almost dry I sprayed the Andy Skinner Rubber Stamp with water and pressed it into the modeling paste to make an impression and then dried with the craft dryer. I the painted it with thin coats of DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics in Raw Umber, Paynes Grey, and Burnt Umber. I let that dry and then I super glued on a knob.
For this block, I painted the Andy Skinner Stamp with The DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics in Paynes Grey, White, and Burnt Umber. Them I sprayed a bit of DecoArt Media Misters in Red.

Take the DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic Paint in Carbon Black on your finger and rub it around all of the edges.

Shakespeare Block 2
For the side of block two I used DecoArt Liquid Glass over the bottles to give them dimension. I spread DecoArt Crackle Paste mixed with just a couple of drops of the DecoArt Media Fluid acrylic in Burnt Umber. Once that was dry I brushed DecoArt Media fluid acrylics watered down a tiny bit in Gold and Burnt Umber letting it dry between coats. I also rubbed the edges with some of the DecoArt Metallic Lustre in Cosmic Blue and then also did the edges with Carbon Black DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic with my finger.
For this side, I just glued down my character and did the sides with the Metallic Lustre and the Carbon Black paint mentioned for the previous side. I didn’t do much else as I did not want to cover the bugs.
For this side, I glued down my fashion model image and painted the face, and hair and added some antlers. Then I made a mask out of deli paper to protect her and put the DecoArt doily stencil down and applied Indigo Blu FlitterGlu with a sponge through the stencil and applied gold leaf to it. I also rubbed the edges with DecoArt Fluid Acrylic Paint in Carbon Black and DecoArt Metallic Lustre in Cosmic Blue with my fingers.
For this side of the block, I painted the birds with a small detail brush and DecoArt Fluid Acrylics. I also rubbed more of the Metallic Lustre in Cosmic Blue on it, sprayed a tiny bit of the DecoArt Media Mister in Red and rubbed the sides with my finger and the Carbon Black DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic.
For the top of block two, I applied the DecoArt Crackle Paste mixed with a tiny bit of the DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic in Phthalo Turquoise. One DryI rubbed it with DecoArtFluid Acrylics in Phthalo Turquoise, Burnt Umber and Ultramarine Blue letting dry between colors and wiping off excess. Once dry I applied gold and copper leaf and then glued on a knob.

Shakespeare Block 3
For block 3 first side I used a medallion for a cupboard from the hardware store and dry brushed it with DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics in Prussian Blue, Cobalt Turquoise, and Paynes Grey till I got a color I like.

I covered the side of the block with DecoArt Texture Paste mixed with a little bit of the burnt umber in the Media Fluid acrylic. once that is dry I brushed on the DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics in Cobalt Turquoise, Phthalo Turquoise and Burnt Umber letting dry between colors and wiping off excess with a baby wipe. Then glue the medallion to the block with glue I used E6000. Glue little fake half pearls where the nail holes are and paint in Paynes reGy and Cobalt turquoise until they look like aged nail heads.

For the top of this block I applied DecoArt Crackle Paste mixed with a bit of Paynes Grey, when it was dry I rubbed on Burnt Umber and Phthalo Turquoise DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics letting dry between coats and rubbing off the excess.
For the rest of the sides, I just collaged the images down and shaded around them with Paynes Grey. I painted my Day of the Dead fashion model.

Shakespeare Block 4
For block 4 I used the same techniques, I shaded around the collaged images, painted all of the collaged images
used DecoArt Crackle Paste and then rubbed paint over them removing the excess when dry with diaper wipes I used several of the DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics in the Magenta and Red hues. I rubbed the Carbon Black on with my finger and then stamped words from the Andy Skinner stamp collection.

Shakespeare Block 5
For block 5 the top was done exactly like block 4. The collaged images were all painted with the DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics, and the corners were done with the Crackle Paste and stained with the Media Fluid Acrylics drying and wiping off excess with baby wipes as mentioned above.

Shakespeare Block 6
For block 6 I really just collaged down the images, Stamped on the words in the Andy Skinner Stampendous stamps and painted the background around the collaged owl. I rubbed all of the corners with the DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic in Black.

Once all the blocks were dry, I sprayed them with DecoArt Glossy Spray Finish.

These blocks were so fun to make. I hope you make a set you can enjoy too.

Thank you, Kitty! These blocks are amazing and showcase Andy’s stamps with the DecoArt Media products that just happen to be a part of our prizes for the hop!
