Happy Birthday, America!

At Stampendous we are always so grateful for all the men and women who give of themselves to make the United States such a wonderful place to live. Today, on America’s birthday, we’d like to extend a special thank you to folks who serve and have served in the armed forces, folks who participate in our political processes, and folks who work and strive to achieve the American Dream of owning a business, home or other enterprise. We salute you America! Hooray for the Red, White and Blue!

Our Design Team is celebrating America, too! Grab some watermelon, a lemonade, maybe a slice of apple pie, sit back, and cruise through the wonderful cards celebrating America!! Maybe leave a comment or two! And thanks for spending a tiny bit of your holiday with us! (and be sure to come back Monday for a sneaky peek at our new July products!!)

Take the Long Way Home

It is Friday and we are taking our patriotic theme on the road.  The grassroots of our patriotic nation are the landmarks across the countryside and along some famous and less traveled routes that entertain us from the window of our automobile or camper window. Wouldn’t it be great to scrapbook some of those trips with a vintage camper stamp?

Fran’s illustrated Trailer Travel stamp beckons us to commit those trips to scrapbook pages, photo frames and more. We can enjoy preserving those memories, complete with map and teardrop camper. Boy does that bring back memories for a few of us!

This fun card by Amy Hurley-Purdie using Trailer Travel is so nicely colored that it looks like there is a real map behind the convertible and camper! What a treasure those days were where we didn’t need cell service to find out where we were along the road, just pull out a map from the glove box and you’re good to go. Ah, the memories.

We found another adorable project from our in-house sample artist, Debi Hammons, who used the Patriotic Painters.  Really, who can resist another adorable House-Mouse Designs® card that just makes you want to sing!

 A Cameo Performance Tutorial

by Pam Hornschu, originally posted on the Paper Craft Planet blog in May 16, 2013. You can see the full article also on Paper Craft Planet HERE.PH_httppapercraftplanet.net20130516giveaway-and-dreamweaver-thursday-tutorial-a-cameo-performance-by-pam-hornschu

The Dreamweaver Stencils’ Dream Team has been playing with the challenge of creating Tiny Treats through the month of May, the concept being little gifties for all those occasions that show up this time of year. Bridal and baby shower favors, Mother’s Day (check that one off), wedding favors, classmate gifts, teacher appreciation gifts, Father’s day, etc. Since I’ve been working on these anyway, I thought I’d do a tutorial as well since it was really fun to create!

Supplies:

Dreamweaver Stencils’ Cameo and Damask • Mercart Colored Aluminum • Mercart Metalworking Tools • Stampendous Perfectly Clear Charm Collection and Friendly Phrases • Beacon Adhesives Zip Dry, Fast Finish Decoupage, Quick Grip, Fabri-Tac, and Gem Tac • Tsukineko Black StazOn Ink Pad with Refill, and Memento Tuxedo Black and Rose Bud • May Arts Satin and Silk ribbons • Bazzill Basics Antique Aged Papers • Spellbinder’s Scalloped Oval Die • flat paint brush • sanding block

Step #1: Die cut two ovals of colored aluminum, and one of thin tagboard. Run one metal piece through embossing machine with Damask stencil following this sandwich format: a) base plate, b) stencil, c) metal, d) embossing mat, e) TWO clear plates.

Step #2: Place other metal die cut piece on stop of Cameo stencil. Hold in place with removable tape. Use finger to press around design, then use paper stump to define the design.

Step #3: Define edges with Teflon tool. Place both layers on top of suede cloth, and continue to define with ball tool, carefully pushing to manipulate the metal.

Step #4: Flip over and trace design for more definition. Place back on suede, and use the Refiner tool to add freeform squiggles around the cameo design.

Step #5: Flip to front again, and place piece back in stencil. Use sanding block to sand color off embossed squiggles. Trace cameo on die cut tagboard, and cut out center design. Adhere as a brace on back of front piece with Zip Dry Adhesive.

Step #6: Trace Cameo design on paper. Cut out, stamp with selected designs in Rose Bud ink, distress around edges with black ink.

Step #7: Pour small amount of Beacon Fast Finish inside cameo, place paper insert inside, add more Fast Finish, and use flat brush to ensure that all areas are adhered. Set aside to dry.

Step #8: Using a cosmetic wedge, apply StazOn refill ink over both front and back metal pieces. Use soft cloth to rub off excess. (A small amount of rubbing alcohol will remove more. If necessary, you can go back and add more pink ink with the Rosebud ink, and heat set with heat tool at least 5 inches away.)

Step #9: Using Quick Grip adhesive, apply a small amount on the back sides, and carefully around the edges, and adhere both sides together, matching the scalloped edges. Use roller wheel on back around all edges to finish.

Step #10: Use Quick Grip to adhere pinback. Set aside. Create card from gray cardstock with top fold. Tape stencil over May Arts satin ribbon, and using Black Memento ink and sponge, apply ink through stencil. Adhere to card front with Fabri-Tac.

Step #11: If desired, embellish by cutting out and applying a stamped butterfly and pearls with Gem Tac adhesive. Insert pinback through ribbon adhered to card. Add a stamped sentiment as well.
