Tiny Little Worlds

Have you ever gazed in wonder at those tiny little worlds that folks painstakingly create for their model trains to inhabit? I’ve always been in awe of all the tiny little people, plants and scenery created with love in these displays.

That’s why I did a cartoon style double-take at CHA when walking by the booth of Simi Creative. Their Wee Scapes collection of miniature plants; surfaces like asphalt, grass, turf, etc; and tiny little people absolutely captured my attention. And as I stared at their products and chatted with Richard, the light bulb in my head gave a cosmic FLASH! WOW! These little treasures would be perfect on greeting cards and scrapbook pages, and by the same token our products could certainly be worked into miniature scenery!

I asked Richard for some samples, which he generously provided, and I challenged our Design Team to create Wee Scapes à la Stampendous!

As you can imagine, they did not disappoint. You know we’ve done everything from wooden bangles to clear acrylic pieces to decoupaging everything we could find… they took their tiny scenery in stride and LOOK what they’ve made!

Jan Garber gets Steampunk!

BlogStar Jan Garber joins us again this week with a cool, Steampunk look at our Patent Man stamp. This stamp has kind of a cool history. It was inspired by the drawing of J.C. Boyle for the very first patent ever issued. It’s a Saluting Device…a hat that tips itself at passing ladies and gentlemen. Not sure how you activate the salute, but the schematics provide a super cool look on a masculine card. Thanks, Jan, for adding all the gears, and screening and oooh…yumminess!
Hi! Jan Garber

here with one of my first projects that I created for Stampendous,

but, as it turns out, I forgot about it.
So it’s one of my last to post before my term ends.
This is another card where I inked and/or burned the paper edges,

and layered on lots of masculine goodies

(Sprockets, mesh, brads, Graphic 45 papers)!Just proof again that I CAN be trusted with matches in the house!

I love the masculinity of this image!

Hope you enjoy!
(To all the team at Stampendous:
I will miss you, and good luck in all of your future endeavors!)

Washi Tape Tutorial by April Derrick

“Because of You” Scrapbook Layout by April Derrick

This is certainly a peaceful page with a great Washi Tape Technique (say that real fast 5 times), a little watercoloring and a great photo. April’s going to show us how she did it! keep reading….

First, your suppy list:

From Stampendous: Cling Jumbo Romantic Border & Elegant Borders Perfectly Clear Stamps Set and Cling Jumbo Iris.
Other:
Artist Tape, Journaling Pen, Watercolor Pencils, & Watercolor Markers: STAEDTLER, Black Ink: Tsukineko Versafine, White Cardstock: Bazzill, Chipboard Stars: Basically Bare, Metal Clip: Tim Holtz, Liquitex Titanium White Ink.

Washi Tape, Step One

1. Tear off several strips of STAEDTLER Artist tape and stick them down on a non-stick craft sheet.

Washi Tape Step Two

2. Color the tape strips with watercolor markers.
3. Heat them with a heat gun to dry completely.

Stamp Border Designs on Tape.

4. Apply ink to Border stamps, and stamp images directly on top of colored tape.

5. After the ink dries, you can leave as is, or spritz on some glimmer mist to add a little sparkle.
6. Simply peel the tape strips off of the non-stick craft mat and apply to a sheet of card stock.

* Technique Tip: For my project, after I stuck my tape strips on my card stock, I gently brushed over them with a wet paintbrush to release some of the watercolors and draw them down the page for a cool blending effect!

Thanks April! Everyone will enjoy making tape borders for scrapbook pages and projects. This is a very cool technique!

Happiness is….by Melinda Gleissner

One more Scrapbook page for National Scrapbooking Month! Melinda has created a very poignant statement with her Dogwood Flower scrapbook page. The couple in the photo are obviously dressed for a very classy and special occasion. The color and placement of the Dogwood flower offsets the photo beautifully, and the Calligraphy Sampler makes a perfect background for the photo. We love the way Melinda edged the page with the border from the Jumbo Dahlia Set and then added the golden touch of our Fran•tàge Aged Gold Embossing Enamel. This elegant page would make anyone happy! Scrapbooking isn’t over just because National Scrapbooking Month will soon be gone. We will continue to post scrapbook pages every month because we believe that scrapbooking is timeless! Thanks to the BlogStars for all the wonderful contributions!

Visual TEXTure

Here’s a sample made by Suzanne Czosek, one of our design team members, to go along with our “Texture” themed challenge.

We’re talk’in TEXTure. Suzanne used our NEW Cling Flying Machines stamp to create this card. The stamp has text in it’s background, which is a page from an actual flight log. The handwritten element gives it some nostalgic sort of texture. She distressed it, stained it, raised images stamped on acetate, strung it and clipped it. Now that’s what I call TEXTure.

More May Arts for You!

Stampendous and May Arts indeed make a fantastic team, and our blog week continues with some exciting samples made by our in-house Sample Artist Debi Hammons and our Art Director Lisa Hindsley. Remember to check out our Design Team members with samples as well. Their links are all in the left sidebar!

DaVinci Horse by Debi Hammons

This fantastic and kind of masculine card by Debi Hammons features our new images V253 DaVinci Horse and R138 Calligraphy Sampler. Debi stamped both in Vintage Sepia VersaFine ink on Kraft cardstock and added touches of white colored pencil to make both images pop. A little brown chalk on the horse and a wrapping with MayArts Twisted Burlap complete the look.

By the Sea by Lisa Hindsley

Lisa Hindsley’s terrific scrapbook page featuring our friends the Jochums uses our new W068 By the Sea image together with our L252 Spiral Shell and our Aged Ivory and Aged Black Embossing Enamels. Lisa also used a little brown chalk and touches of white colored pencil to make the stamped images pop. This simple coloring technique works so well when  you’re pressed for time. She added some May Arts Black Mesh tied off with the same Twisted Burlap to complete that salty sea look.

Be sure to comment this week to win May Arts/Stampendous blog packages. And visit the May Arts Blog for more chances to win! They’re featuring a fantastic sample by our BlogStar Jennifer Ingle (Jingle) today!
